Where conservative (non-surgical) treatment fails to deliver, the dam-aged joint is replaced with an artificial joint carefully designed taking into account patient's age, health conditions, and joint anatomy.The ENDO-Klinik is committed to providing excellent care to patients in need of joint replacement. Precise planning shortens the time spent in the operating room and minimizes negative effects for the patient. Whenever possible, the center resorts to partial joint replacement procedures. When this approach fails, total joint re-placements are performed using internationally recognized high flex-ion artificial joints.

The most frequently performed procedures at our clinic are hip and knee surgeries, followed by foot and shoulder surgeries. Especially in the field of joint replacement there is a wide range of different prosthetic models and materials to choose from. The fixation method, i.e. the decision whether or not to use bone cement, must also be considered carefully. Revision/exchange surgery

An artificial joint makes life easier for affected patients. Sometimes, however, an artificial joint fails to work as intended and has to be replaced. Reasons for this include wear and tear, loosening,
infection or dislocation of the implant. It is completely normal for prostheses to suffer wear and tear or to become loose after 20 to 30 years of use. The ENDO-Klinik performs by far the most
exchange surgeries of knee and hip replacements in all of Germany – about 1,400 procedures every year.

Unilateral exchange –Treating infections in just one surgical procedure

One of the most dangerous complications associated with prosthetic surgery are periprosthetic joint infections. Here, the area surrounding the artificial joint is infected, thus enabling bacteria to proliferate on the joint itself. With more than 500 procedures due to artificial joint infections per year, the ENDO-Klinik is the largest center worldwide to treat these kinds of conditions.

Detection of pathogens

In next to no time, our specialists use novel methods to determine your individual antibiotic with the highest efficacy, which they then mix into the bone cement, as fixation with bone cement allows
for immediate load-bearing of the joint and treatment of infections in a single surgical procedure.

Age-related degeneration of the spine of varying degrees is common and a part of our lives. This does not necessarily always have to include back pain. The causes of pain are very different and require thorough analysis and investigation. Most of the time, the pain can be successfully treated by conservative methods; however, in some cases surgery is required or can significantly improve
quality of life again.

Priv.-Doz. Dr. Ralf Hempelmann and Dr. Alexander Richter are the senior physicians of the Department of Spinal and Neurosurgery at the ENDO-Klinik. The interdisciplinary team of physicians in this department, comprised of neurosurgeons, orthopedic specialists and trauma surgeons, treats not only degenerative disease of all segments of the spine, such as herniated disks, spinal stenoses or instabilities, but also diseases resulting from tumors, accidents,
and inflammations. Another area in which they specialize is follow-up interventions and revision surgeries due to failed surgical procedures or complications.
