Laser in thoracic Surgery

Some operations on the lungs make high demands on the technical conditions in a clinic.

Especially in metastasis surgery, it is often necessary to work accurate to the millimetre in tissue that is well supplied with blood and also contains air. In our Clinic for Thoracic Surgery we use a modern laser scalpel for this purpose, which is specially adapted to the anatomical requirements of the lung tissue and allows high-precision work.
With this procedure, we can immediately seal the small blood vessels when they are severed, as well as airtightly seal the pulmonary alveoli when we remove the metastases. At the same time, the larger blood vessels and bronchi are spared and remain unharmed.
In contrast to minimally invasive surgery, the laser necessarily requires a larger incision to access the affected lung, but the precise work allows far more healthy lung tissue to be preserved than with other surgical techniques. This enables us to offer you an optimal treatment.
