Playing an active part in professional groups

Professor Dr. Ingo Dähnert has been President of the German Society of Pediatric Cardiology (DGPK) since January 2016. He will hold this office until 2017. The DGPK has some 800 members. The Society's goal is to promote science, diagnostics and therapy, and to help prevent the development of congenital and acquired cardiovascular diseases in children and adolescents. It also plays a role in training and continuing education, and in drawing up guidelines.

Quality assurance

The University Clinic for Pediatric Cardiology and the hospital's team of pediatric heart surgeons participate in the German quality assurance program for pediatric heart surgery and cardiology. The project is organized by the German Society of Pediatric Cardiology (DGPK) and the German Society of Thoracic, Cardiac and Vascular Surgery (DGTHG). Since 2010, we have been supplying data voluntarily for the country-wide program entitled 'National Quality Assurance for the Treatment of Congenital Heart Defects'.

The Neodoc neonatal quality assurance program for the Free State of Saxony is also conducted at our institution. In addition, our clinic - together with the pediatric heart surgery department led by Prof. Dr. Martin Kostelka - has been participating in the quality assurance program for pediatric heart surgery organized by the database of the European Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery (EACTS).
