Urinary stone therapy

Urinary stones are fine crystalline deposits in the efferent urinary tract, the formation of which can have various causes. Five to ten percent of the population develop urinary stones during their lifetime, which we treat with state-of-the-art technology.

Recognize and treat

Our clinic offers patients with urinary stones modern diagnostic and gentle therapy methods. Since each patient has a different medical history, we coordinate the therapy procedure in detail with you in a conversation.

For the treatment of urinary stones we mainly use minimally invasive procedures. These include:

  • Ureteroscopy - Ureterorenoscopy
The removal of ureter, bladder and kidney stones is performed endoscopically and naturally via the urethra.
  • Endoscopic stone removal via the skin (Mini-PCN)
After kidney puncture, kidney stones of any position and size are broken up and sucked out through the skin using a fine access.
  • Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy - ESWL
For stones that are still small, we can often use the so-called extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, in which shock waves shatter the urinary stones from the outside. These can then be excreted by themselves with the urine. This procedure usually does not require X-rays, and our state-of-the-art equipment enables very good ultrasound-guided stone detection. If necessary, we can also use low-radiation digital X-rays.

Urinary calculus analysis and prevention

In about 15 percent of patients who have a stone removed, the stone will re-form after some time. We therefore accompany our patients after the first stone removal in order to reduce the risk of stone formation again. The stones we remove are examined in cooperation with an institute. The composition provides further information about the cause of stone formation.

Depending on the type of stone, there are simple ways to counteract a renewed formation of urinary calculus. In addition to the urinary calculus analysis, the focus is on detailed consultation, a targeted metabolic clarification and specialised nutritional advice.
