To introduce the steam into the prostate tissue, a very thin plastic tube with an integrated camera is first inserted into the urethra. At the end of the plastic tube there is a small needle, which releases controlled amounts of 70 degree warm steam. The steam is applied directly into the prostate tissue to be treated. This process takes about 9 seconds per steam shock. The number of applications depends on the size of the prostate. After about five minutes the treatment is already over.
The aim of the new method: the treated tissue dies due to the heating and is then broken down by the body. The patient feels no pain at all and can observe an improvement after a short time. After about three months, the body has reduced the tissue to such an extent that the patient benefits from the full effect of the therapy: a significant improvement in symptoms such as urination, incomplete bladder emptying or problems with urination.
As a rule, the procedure has no effect on erectile or ejaculatory function, as the parts of the prostate close to the bladder neck are not treated.
