Holmium Laser postate treatment

At our urological clinic we offer you a particularly gentle, minimally invasive holmium laser procedure for the treatment of benign prostate enlargement.

The procedure

Under video control, we insert an endoscope through the urethra to the prostate gland. We use the laser beam to remove the prostate. The laser energy simultaneously obliterates bleeding vessels. As a result, the procedure is less bleeding. Only a narrow outer zone and the organ capsule remain. Finally, the separated tissue is crushed and sucked out through the endoscope.

Holmium laser enucleation offers the following advantages:

  • It is minimally invasive, i.e. the intervention is particularly gentle and low in bleeding and is therefore associated with a shorter overall length of stay.
  • With laser, we can avoid open surgery for many patients, as the procedure can also be used for a greatly enlarged prostate (over 100 grams).
  • In comparison to other laser procedures, a fine tissue examination is also possible here, as there is no vaporization of the tissue.

Your further and follow-up treatment

On the second day after the laser treatment, you can usually start to urinate yourself again, and if you feel well, you can be discharged home the following day. The prostate takes about six to eight weeks to heal. During this time you should take it easy on your body. In order to keep an eye on the healing process, we carry out regular check-ups in our clinic or your resident urologist will take over further follow-up care.
