Rheumatology / Autoimmune system diseases

The immune system protects our body from diseases. But sometimes it also generates diseases. The term autoimmune systemic diseases covers a wide range of different clinical pictures such as rheumatism, in which the immune system suddenly becomes hostile to the body's own healthy cells and organs.

Inflammatory rheumatic diseases are among the autoimmune diseases. But also collagenoses such as systemic scleroderma and lupus erythematosus (inflammatory connective tissue diseases) and vasculitides (inflammatory blood vessel diseases) belong to the group of autoimmune systemic diseases.

Due to the diverse and sometimes unspecific symptoms involving various organ systems, those affected often have a long ordeal before a diagnosis is confirmed.  The symptoms of the disease range from general symptoms such as fever, fatigue, sweating and weight loss to changes in the skin and painful joints, tendons and muscles. However, autoimmune diseases can also lead to serious disorders of the internal organs.

Recognize and treat

The diagnosis and therapy of these complex diseases - especially those involving the kidneys - belong to the responsibilities of our nephrology clinic. We have extensive experience in the treatment of these clinical pictures and guarantee the best possible, individually tailored therapy - from drug-based immunosuppressive therapy to extracorporeal therapy methods such as plasmapheresis and immunoadsorption - for the various diseases.

An early diagnosis and a correspondingly anticipated initiation of an immunosuppressive therapy are crucial in order to avoid irreparable organ damage, such as the need for dialysis. As a maximum care hospital, we also offer the advantage of being able to provide interdisciplinary care to patients.
