Heart rhythm disorders: Tracking the heart rhythm

In the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, we use state-of-the-art diagnostic and ablation procedures to help our patients regain a better quality of life.

There are many forms of cardiac arrhythmia - physicians differentiate between them according to the type of dysfunction, the place of origin and the pace. In rhythmology it is our task to bring your heart back into the right rhythm.

The electrical signal patterns that we derive from the relevant parts of your heart provide us with information about the point of origin of the cardiac arrhythmia and possible treatment approaches through the targeted application of heat or cold energy. An electrocardiogram (ECG) is usually sufficient to identify the exact point of origin in many arrhythmias - without the need for further examinations.

Our treatment ranges

In addition to drug therapy, we treat cardiac arrhythmias by targeted sclerotherapy (ablation) of heart muscle tissue. For most cardiac arrhythmias, this is primarily a matter of improving your quality of life. In arrhythmias that are life-threatening, ablation has a life-prolonging or even life-saving function.

“We perform 1.000 ablations a year. Each one is different.“

Priv.-Doz. Dr. Dong-In Shin

The exact "placement" of the energy is done by controllable heart catheters, which are made visible by X-rays. In the case of complex cardiac arrhythmias, 3-dimensional display techniques must also be used, which create a virtual heart in which we can move and work.

Pathological electrical interference signals (pulses) are thus prevented or diverted. One of the most common procedures is catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation. The procedures always take place in a kind of sedation, and medication ensures that you do not feel any of the ablation.

Most cardiac arrhythmias can be improved or even cured by catheter ablation. In simple forms, such as congenital tachycardia or atrial flutter, the cardiac arrhythmia is usually cured and usually does not return during the course of life. In the case of atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia, ablation can only take effect after several weeks or may have to be repeated.
