Surgery in newborns and infants

A handful of life weighing only a few hundred grams is so small and fragile. That is why the surgical treatment of the very small ones requires not only a very experienced surgeon but also an equally experienced team.

In our infant and premature infant intensive care unit, a team of paediatric nurses, paediatricians and a very good paediatric anaesthesia and paediatric surgery care team is available for you and your child.
With the professional knowledge and relevant experience we can offer appropriate care even for the very youngest: We are a Level 1 perinatal centre and care for premature babies weighing less than 1000 grams.
Close cooperation with the parents in the form of regular discussions and active involvement in the treatment, in addition to careful preparation and performance of the operation, is our primary goal.

Apart from surgery for deformities, the following diagnoses occur frequently, which we treat competently:

  • Inguinal hernia
  • Congenital narrowing of the pyloric orifice (hypertrophic pyloric stenosis)
  • Intestinal diseases (e.g. necrotising enterocolitis)
  • Intestinal twisting (volvulus)
  • Intestinal rupture (intestinal perforation)
  • Invagination of a part of the intestine
