Fruit alarm in the paediatric cancer centre

Fruit alarm in the paediatric cancer centre

Once a week there is the "fruit alarm" on our ward. The project specifically promotes the fun of experimenting with different fruits, with different colours, smells and tastes. But no matter whether sweet or sour: it will always be healthy!

Every Thursday, volunteer cocktail mixers create colourful fruit cocktails with our little patients. They use different juices, nectars and syrups, which can be mixed with ice cubes according to your mood. When it comes to questions of taste, the children clearly have the say. They do not mix according to predefined recipes, but according to their mood and daily form. Sometimes it is simply the favourite colour that decides.

The "Fruit Alarm", which is financed purely by donations, is aimed primarily at children suffering from cancer. Many children who need chemotherapy or other intensive treatments have no appetite or pain and therefore often have no desire to eat or drink. In addition, their sense of smell and taste changes again and again during the course of therapy. The cocktails stimulate all the senses with their sometimes sweet and sometimes sour tastes and colourful juices. In this way, the young patients are motivated to drink and try something for themselves again.
