Diagnostics for head and neck tumours

Diagnostics for head and neck tumours

At the beginning of every tumor therapy in the head and neck area, there is an extensive staging, i.e. the clarification of the complete tumor status.

In a detailed patient consultation, we first ask about your symptoms, medical history and medication. Afterwards we carry out a physical examination.

If a tumor is suspected, further diagnostic procedures follow. These include endoscopy of the airway (endoscopy), which enables the tumor and its extent to be determined precisely.

Further examinations provide information on whether the tumor has already spread to the lymph nodes or metastasized in other organs (lungs, liver). Various imaging techniques such as CT, MRT and sonography (ultrasound) are available for this purpose.

Once the complete tumor status has been clarified, we are able to classify the cancer according to its stage and determine a patient-specific

therapy strategy

Our diagnostic services:

  • Sonography (ultrasound)
  • Endoscopy of the oropharyngeal cavity (if necessary with removal of a tissue sample)
  • Computer tomography (CT)
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Fluoroscopic techniques for swallowing diagnostics
  • Positron emission tomography CT (PET-CT)
